Swinging Through the Cumberland

Rainey Rescue Release is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating from 565 Rainey Rd in Somerset, Kentucky — the gateway to Lake Cumberland and the self-proclaimed Houseboat Capital of the World. Situated in Pulaski County, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured and orphaned wildlife back into the forests and waterways that define this magnificent region.

Every creature deserves a second swing at life. From the shoreline to the treetops, Rainey Rescue Release is their bridge home.

Somerset sits on the edge of one of the largest man-made lakes in the eastern United States. Lake Cumberland stretches over 1,200 miles of shoreline and 63,000 surface acres, carved through the Daniel Boone National Forest. The region supports a thriving ecosystem of wildlife — deer, wild turkey, osprey, river otters, and migratory songbirds that depend on these connected habitats.

The town itself pulses with community traditions: the Somernites Cruise, drawing thousands of classic car enthusiasts monthly from April through October, and the Master Musicians Festival each July, showcasing bluegrass, blues, and Americana talent from across the nation. The historic Mill Springs Battlefield and Mill Springs Grist Mill with its iconic overshot water wheel anchor the region's connection to its Civil War heritage.

Monkey Odyssey was inspired by the acrobatic energy of wildlife in the Cumberland canopy. Players guide a monkey through vine-draped forests, crossing rivers and leaping between treetops. All passive revenue directly supports our wildlife rehabilitation center, veterinary care, and habitat restoration programs along the Lake Cumberland corridor.
